Cross-border cooperation

Cross-border cooperation within the framework of European territorial cooperation is part of the common European cohesion policy, which supports the balanced development of the entire European Union.

Cross-border cooperation, also known as INTERREG-A, supports the cooperation of partners at the level of statistical regions (NUTS III) from at least two different Member States along land or sea borders.

The fundamental goals of cross-border cooperation programs are:

promotion of economic and social development in border areas
solving common challenges in the field of environment, public health, safety and security
establishing better conditions for the mobility of people, goods and capital

Common solutions

These objectives promote a common approach to solving common problems/challenges in border areas, implementation of joint actions and exchange of policies, experiences and knowledge between national, regional and local actors. The challenges Member States and European regions are facing today, are increasingly crossing national borders and require joint action.

80% of eligible costs

Funds from the European Regional Development Fund for cross-border projects are allocated on the basis of public tenders. The level of co-financing from the European Regional Development Fund amounts to a maximum of 80% of the eligible costs.

We understand the whole process

Funds are tendered by the management bodies responsible for implementing the programs. The highest decision-making body at the program level is represented by the Joint Committees for monitoring individual programs. Based on the principle of the leading partnership, the leading partner takes over responsibility for the implementation of the entire project and signs a co-financing contract with the Managing Authority on behalf of the project partnership.
